Here is my contribution to the collaboration happening amongst several galleries presenting during Brevards upcoming 4th Friday Gallery Walk on Main.
Those of us participating were asked to create a piece inspired by the Master artist Johannes Vermeer’s painting, “Girl with the Pearl Earring.”
With all due respect, and homage to Vermeer, and to his incredible masterpiece, I had to take this opportunity to use my art as reference in continuing to raise attention to our current state of political hostility towards women, and equality.
Although the Pink Pussy Hat is no longer as en-vogue.....the premise remains ...... To victory!!!

Time flies

I thought for sure I would have an easier time maintaining more frequent posts here, but such is not the case.....fortunately......for all good reasons!!!

I have been super busy creating art, and displaying my work both in The River Arts District’s Trackside Studio, and gallery in Asheville, NC, as well as in my beautiful hometown in Brevard, NC at the Artists At Work gallery on Main St.

I do keep up my Instagram site as it is so much simpler to say words with photo’s....so please follow me there  @barefootmuse, or  Gloria Martin.

Here are some of my newer pieces up for sale.  I hope you enjoy.

Hanging Art on the Wall

I’ve been very busy hauling the majority of my art supplies to the studio, and  painting with abandon. Certainly feeling like a child in a candy store.  Here are some of my recent pieces!

A Studio of my own

Desicion made!  I have taken a studio space outside of the comforts of home....

I will be working in a cozy environment, a room with grey walls, and a beautiful Chippendale vintage sofa,  in the color chartreuse.....my favorite.   Lots of inspiration already, but sadly no Chippendale dancer.....just the-sofa, and plenty of art.  Who could ask for more?

I’ve already been working quite hard just moving my countless supplies in, and up a long flight of stairs, but grateful for the aerobics!

Hoping to be settled....ready to go by June 1st.

I will also be posting photo’s of my art here, for those of you interested in purchasing, and I especially hope that many of my local friends will come by to visit with me, sharing in the creative vibe that makes this sweet town so unique.

For now, I will leave you with a few pics of the progress I’ve made so far.    Oh, and the address is as follows......

I hung my ego out to dry,
forgetting it was there.
Sitting naked in the sun,
wearing nothing but spirit,
I became clothed in truth,
the blissfullness of love.
Then,
the gentlest breeze kissed my face,
whispering, as I inhaled.
It bathed my senses,
soaking the very pores of my soul.
The infinite, undeniable, all Knowing,
memory of home.
The fragrance of heaven,
my mother.

Gloria Martin

Hello again!

I cannot believe it has been over three years since I last posted here on my blog.

Three years worth of change, adjustments, battles lost, and won, lessons learned, sadness, pain, and tears,    all.......mercifully, intermingled with much joy, and gratitude as well.

My beautiful mother passed away in August of 2016.  She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014.  Watching her struggle, and suffer - despite every attempt to make her comfortable became my deepest heartache, one I am just beginning to heal from, and until now, unable to express without tremendous turmoil.

Time has served me with a deep understanding.  I have come to embrace that...in the end....letting her go while still in my arms, was in fact the greatest act of love I could have offered my beloved Mother.   I take comfort knowing that her transition from this earth set her free from pain, and harm.

And so, my apologies for returning here on such a sad note, but such is life, and I have endured,  I have survived, and I have grown even stronger.

Life goes on.  I continue to live happily in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.  Lovingly surrounded by the tranquility, and exquisite marvel that Nature offers.  Once again taking delight in the change of seasons, most especially the Fall, ( after living in South Florida for over twenty years.....where it is always summer)  braving the winters cold, and snow excite me.

For all of it, with all of it, the grief, the joys, divine intervention, I am so very grateful.   I can attest that life does get sweeter with age .....if you are open to it...... and so.....

On that lighter note...🎼.....I will complete this post, planning

to return soon with happy goings on...while

wishing everyone a delightful spring!

Faith

This piece is the very first one I shared when I began this blog.

It has been a couple of weeks since I've had time to devote to simple creativity, and I needed a fix......so I took out some old, old, pieces that I've never completed hoping for inspiration.

This particular one,  Faith, I began seven years ago, and will always be my favorite.  All original, all hand done, beaded, embroidered, and each flower individually made using silk ribbons.

Thought I would share in memory of someone very special!!!!

Still a work in progress.

My Guardian Angel

Dear friends, and family,

For those of you who knew my precious Aunt Rachel I want to share the memory of her with you.

She was a blessing in all of our lives, during all of her life.

In my very own, she was, is, and will always be.....the Sun, the Moon, and my ever present guiding light.

Nov. 16th, 1929 ~ July 11th, 2014
The background and lips are painted in acrylics....mixing up a poppy color .  The face and hair is simply pencil. Still deciding how it will evolve.  Just paint, or mixed media????
Just pencil and paper tonight.  Had to calm myself while watching Hockey.......go RANGERS!!!!!

Sirena

Today I attempted my first face painting using nothing but watercolors.  I always work in mixed media using mostly acrylics, gesso, and marking pens.

Well....I am now enamored with this medium.  The biggest challenge was trying to keep the white areas from mixing with the colors.

Other than that it is a very liberating, relaxing, enjoyable technique.  I'm hooked!!!

A very proud grandmother

Our little "abstract thinker" won 2nd place in his School's Art contest. A budding Matisse protege...perhaps??? Definitely wise, loving and sensitive well beyond his 8 years. I am as proud,as he is excited!!!!

The school was so very generous to have had his painting professionally framed.  Thank you "All Saints."
